I was completely mesmerised by the charisma of Thai designer Polpat “Moo” or “Asava” Asavaprapa. He is a man who challenges stereotypes and made me laugh numerous times on and off camera. As I said to him, his energy, passion and enthusiasm was infectious and as for his clothing? Well, his fabrics, prints, cuts and style of the collections in his eponymous label blew me away. So wearable, eye-catching and fabulous. It’s little wonder Thai celebs like Chompoo Araya and Jane Suda have been seen donning his garments. It’s also no surprise his first internship was with Marc Jacobs in New York City. Working as a fashion director for MaxMara was just another feather in his already fashionable hat before starting his own line in 2008 in Bangkok.
I was fortunate enough to grab 5 minutes with Asava in his studio in the backstreets of bustling Bangkok – check out the video below. I was especially lucky to catch him as he was in organisation mode for ELLE Bangkok Fashion Week (posts for that coming soon) and was busily preparing! Also stay tuned for a future post when I play dress ups in my favourite ASAVA label piece.
