Normally, I wouldn’t touch any oil-based products with a ten-foot-pole. The reason behind this decision comes down to a little visit to a skin specialist many years ago. I wanted my little bumps on my face to be explained. They weren’t acne or big pimples, but rather spots I couldn’t squeeze. Essentially, the skin guru put my less-than-smooth skin down to my oil-based products I was using – particularly my moisturiser, which was clogging my pores. I ditched the oil and have never looked back. Until now. I’ve realised not all oils are created equal. I actually started using the Clarins Double Serum without realising it’s ingredients. The product has been reformulated and improved over the years, and the bottle keeps two serums (Hydric – water phase and Lipidic – oil phase) in separate containers – which blend together when pumped. I integrated this serum as part of my daily skincare regime – applying day and night after toner and I have to say, those pesky clogged pores haven’t come back to haunt me. Instead, my skin feels more hydrated and supple. It doesn’t leave an oily residue on your face, but is quickly absorbed into the skin. I’ve been combining the use of the Double Serum with the Clarins Extra-Firming Eye Wrinkle Smoothing Cream. In the last few years, I’ve been using all kinds of eye-creams religiously at night, and often in the morning as well. The Extra-Firming Eye Cream nourishes and smooths my delicate eye area and in the morning I use it to wake-up my eyes. Did I mention I need to be in studio at 2am sometimes? Yes, brightening the eyes is a must! So what sets this apart from other eye creams? I put it down to the cream factor. The consistency is thick (still malleable), and not watery. It’s dense and coats the wrinkle-prone areas, but is absorbed well. It has an instant tightening effect. The only negative (which is not about the cream itself), would be that it comes in a jar, not a pump, which means perhaps disturbing the anti-oxidants with my fingers. The Extra-Firming Day Cream is also a favourite for anti-aging reasons. The product just melts into my skin, and as it promises – leaves it “velvety-matt” which means a perfect base for adding on makeup afterwards. Some moisturisers I use actually react badly to liquid foundations – some almost clump together in little balls on my skin when combined. This Clarins Day Cream does the opposite. My skin is softer, hydrated and is comfortable – not greasy. I would say it almost feels like a protective layer beneath my makeup. My skin is incredibly sensitive – if my skin doesn’t like a product, I break out in hives. Ichy, red, unsightly hives. I once used a product from another brand I shall not name, which contained a high dose of Vitamin C before a photoshoot and my face was bumpier than a flight in a storm! With Clarins, this hasn’t happened, which is a major plus point for me. Of course everyone is different – do a spot test to see if it works for you. Oh and the Night Cream is equally as delicious! Overall, the fragrance of the creams and serums are light, fresh and pleasant – scent alone (even if it’s a miracle worker) is enough to put me off using certain ranges. I would say that the aforementioned products – which are formulated for women over 40 (I’m not 40 by the way, thank you very much!), is perfect for people in their late twenties and above to start using as a preventive measure. It’s an intensive anti-wrinkle skin care range that I completely recommend.
